Hello Visitor!

Star Of India"Too many projects," some say. Others: "Dig one well already!"

Maybe it is true that a sharp focus on one topic would actually be more productive, I don't know. But in the meantime, it is what it is: many projects, maybe too many.

This site offers a virtual portal to these projects, initiatives, opportunities, and perspectives. It brings back in-house a number of efforts that were benefiting others, instead of benefiting us.

In the last century, maybe some of these subjects could have been articles and books, but the online domain provides more dynamic opportunities for staying current and interacting with all of you.

Focus on education

Adult educationAdults are going back to school in droves: the Great Recession has driven people to improve their education in search for better work, higher salaries, and some way to return to secure prosperity. In response to this demand, private non-profit and for-profit, as well as public institutions of higher learning, have grown by leaps and bounds.

Unfortunately, not all education is created equal: some programs are excellent, some mediocre and underfunded, or lacking attention to educational best practices. And then there are the best apples, who set up students with federal financial aid, but never deliver a viable education to them.

Social commentary

Einsiedeln Monastery, Switzerland

Social, political, and economic issues are best left to radio personalities and politicians to ponder, you might say:  it is inherently dangerous in this 21st century world to express an opinion, for a number of reasons:

  • Life is complicated, and maybe valid opinions are reserved for hyper-intelligent specialists in their cubicle farms.
  • Filtering opinions for political correctness across the spectrum of all those, who might be offended seems like a daunting task destined to fail.
  • Nobody wants to hear your opinion, unless it coincides with theirs.
  • There is no room for your opinion in my center-of-my-universe, and vice versa.
  • The well-meaning opinion could be misinformed, stupid, or just plain wrong.

But nevertheless, this personal portal will include opinions, perspectives, admonishments, and plenty of "dos-as-I-say-not-as-I-do" ...

The role of art

The role of artWe live in times when art is considered by many a luxury at best, and a frivolity at worst. We believe that the loss in our culture of an interest in art, literature, and music, replaced by an overemphasis on war, business, technology, and sports, is detrimental to our strategic future.

Citizens who lack a deep, broad, informed perspective on modern life and the best it has to offer are poorly equiped to make good decisions for themselves and at the polls.
